Why professional presentations matter

In Baku and across Azerbaijan, business environments are becoming increasingly demanding. Investor meetings, sales pitches, corporate reports, conference talks and internal strategy sessions all require presentations tailored to their context. Poorly designed slides can undermine even the strongest idea; professional design keeps the focus on the message, accelerates decision-making and strengthens brand credibility.

At ONE Studio we have been designing presentations for local businesses, corporates, government institutions and startups in Baku and Azerbaijan for 16+ years. This guide walks through presentation types, structure, design principles, pricing and 2026 best practices.

Presentation types and use cases

The first step is choosing the right format. Each type has a different audience, slide count and design language.

TypeTypical lengthKey sectionsTools
Pitch deck (investor)10-15 slidesProblem, solution, market, team, askFigma Slides, Keynote
Sales presentation15-25 slidesPain, solution, proof, price, CTAPowerPoint, Figma
Corporate profile20-30 slidesCompany, services, portfolio, teamPowerPoint, Keynote

Conference talk10-20 slidesHook, story, message, CTAKeynote, Figma Slides
Annual report30-80 slidesKPIs, financials, ESG, strategyInDesign, Figma

Once you have picked the type, sharpen your audience definition: who is the decision-maker, what question do they need answered, and what step do you expect after the presentation? These three questions dictate the entire structure.

Pitch deck structure – the classic ten slides

Guy Kawasaki's famous 10-20-30 rule is still valid in 2026: 10 slides, 20 minutes, smallest font 30pt. The classic structure:

  1. Company + tagline: describe what you do in a single sentence.
  2. Problem: the customer pain point, told through a real story.
  3. Solution: the unique value proposition of your product or service.
  4. Market size: TAM/SAM/SOM figures with sources.
  5. Product demo: real screenshots or a short video.
  6. Business model: how you make money, including unit economics.
  7. Traction: live metrics – MRR, active users, growth curve.
  8. Competition: 2x2 matrix or comparison table.
  9. Team: short bios and relevant experience.
  10. Ask: how much you're raising, for which milestones, at what valuation.

Design principles – the 2026 standard

  • One slide = one idea: think in messages, not in pages.
  • Visual dominance: keep each slide under 30-40 words of text; the rest should be visual.
  • Brand consistency: same palette, same font family, same iconography throughout.
  • Meaningful whitespace: leave 24-48px of breathing room between elements.
  • Grid system: a 12-column grid keeps slides balanced.
  • Contrast and legibility: WCAG AA – 4.5:1 text contrast; readable from the back row.
  • Memorable headlines: each slide title should convey the message even without body text.

Slide typography

Presentation typography differs from web and print: it has to read from a distance. In 2026, most agencies and studios use these principles:

  • Headline: 40-60pt, sans-serif (Inter, Söhne, Neue Haas Grotesk, SF Pro).
  • Subhead: 24-32pt, medium weight from the same family.
  • Body: 18-24pt, regular.
  • Notes: 12-14pt, only for small captions.
  • Font count: maximum two families – one for headings, one for body.

For Azerbaijani content, choose fonts that properly support Ə, Ğ, İ, Ö, Ş, Ü, Ç, Q – many free fonts break these glyphs.

Colour and brand systems

Professional presentations respect brand colours without dumping them all on one slide. The 60-30-10 rule helps: 60% primary (usually a light or dark base), 30% secondary, 10% accent (CTAs, key numbers). White backgrounds are not mandatory – dark decks are increasingly popular for investor presentations and are easier on the eyes on screen. When choosing colours, factor in projectors and conference-hall lighting: high contrast always wins.

Imagery, icons and illustration

Stock photos are the weakest link in most presentations – everyone uses the same "handshake" cliché. Better options:

  • Original photography: team, office and product shoots.
  • A single icon set: Phosphor, Lucide, Iconoir – one weight, one style.
  • Custom illustration: commissioned visuals from an agency or illustrator.
  • Vector emblems: simple shapes and colours aligned with the brand.
  • Video: short 5-8 second loops boost attention in investor decks.

Data visualisation

Numbers are decisive in investor and sales presentations, but raw Excel charts feel unprofessional. Principles:

  • One chart = one question: what question does this chart answer?
  • Fewer colours: two or three; highlight the key one.
  • Headline as message: write "Q4 revenue doubled" instead of "Q4 revenue".
  • Simple chart types: line, bar and pie cover 90% of cases.
  • Cite sources: adding sources under every number builds trust.

Delivery and speaker tips

However beautiful the design, your delivery accounts for at least half of the presentation. Practical advice:

  • Write a script: 30-60 seconds of spoken content per slide.
  • Rehearse three times: mirror, video and in front of a person.
  • Time it: a 20-minute talk should not exceed 22 minutes.
  • Prepare for Q&A: keep appendix slides for finance detail and technical questions.
  • Do not read the slides: slides support the speaker, they are not the speaker.

How much does presentation design cost in Baku?

Pricing in Azerbaijan depends on designer experience, slide count, custom illustration and animation requirements. Realistic ranges:

PackageSlide countDelivery timePrice (AZN)
Simple pitch deck10-151-2 weeks500-1,500
Standard sales / corporate15-252-3 weeks1,500-3,000
Premium investor deck15-25 + animation2-4 weeks3,000-8,000
Annual report40-804-6 weeks5,000-15,000

Freelancers may deliver in the 300-800 AZN range but usually rely on stock templates. A studio such as ONE Studio provides an on-brand system, reusable master templates and a proper balance of text and visuals.

What makes a great pitch deck?

The best pitch decks share three qualities: clarity (a reader gets what you do within three seconds), momentum (each slide moves the audience forward instead of raising new questions), and specificity (it can only describe your company, not a generic template). Airbnb, Uber, LinkedIn and Buffer decks are famous for simplicity and the power of numbers. Their slide titles are assertive, not descriptive – "Market" becomes "$200B market, we only need 2%".

Common mistakes

  • 200+ words of body text per slide – the audience reads instead of listening.
  • Low-quality stock images and clipart.
  • A soup of fonts – four or five different families.
  • Inconsistent page numbers and title positions.
  • Charts pasted straight from Excel.
  • Numbers without sources.
  • Closing on a "Questions?" slide instead of a clear next step.

The ONE Studio process

When you commission a presentation with our Baku studio, this is how the project runs:

  1. Brief: a 60-90 minute meeting on goals, audience and message.
  2. Structure: a slide-by-slide storyboard within 2-3 days.
  3. Design: 5-10 working days on the initial visual design.
  4. Review: two feedback rounds included.
  5. Delivery: PPTX, PDF, Keynote and Figma files.
  6. Template: a reusable master template for your team.

Storyboard first – before you touch the slides

Professional studios never start designing directly on slides – they draft a storyboard first on paper or in Miro. This is the stage most clients in Baku don't yet expect, and it is exactly where the value of the deck is decided. A storyboard fixes the role, the message and the visual shape of every slide up front; designers can then move fast, and you catch "this slide isn't really needed" at the text stage rather than after ten hours of design. In practice, a single A4 sheet with 6-9 mini-frames and a headline in each is enough – 30 minutes of storyboarding save the next 30 hours of rework.

Template systems and long-term use

There is a meaningful difference between commissioning a one-off deck and commissioning a template. A master template – the reusable file your team will edit for years – increases the upfront investment by 1.5-2x but saves dozens of hours across a year. A solid master typically includes 20-30 pre-built layouts (title, two-column, quote, table, chart, team, timeline, before/after and so on), colour variables, type styles and a small brand book. For corporate clients in Baku this is now standard practice: build the master once, refresh sections annually, never redesign from scratch.

Accessibility

In 2026, accessibility is not just a web concern. WCAG guidelines translate well to slides: 4.5:1 text contrast, alt text for images (so screen readers can voice them from a PDF), generous font sizes, and colour palettes that respect red-green colour blindness. International organisations, government agencies and enterprise procurement teams increasingly ask about accessibility, so bake it in from the start rather than retrofitting later.
