UI and UX – two different disciplines

UX (User Experience)

How the product works. What does the user feel? Is it clear to them? How quickly do they reach the result? UX = research, logic, flow, structure.

UI (User Interface)

How the product looks. Visual hierarchy, colour, typography, icons. UI = aesthetics, brand consistency, micro-interactions.

Both work together. Good UX with bad UI is boring; beautiful UI with bad UX fails.

UX process phases

  1. User research: interviews, surveys, behavioural analytics.
  2. User personas: who are we designing for?
  3. User flows: how do they get from A to B?
  4. Wireframes: low-fidelity structure plan.
  5. Prototype: test in interactive version.
  6. User testing: validation with real users.

UI process phases

  1. Brand alignment: colour, font, photography style.
  2. Visual hierarchy: what to show first.
  3. Component library: reusable elements.
  4. High-fidelity design: final look of each screen.
  5. Micro-animations: transitions, hover effects.
  6. Developer hand-off: specs, redlines.
