Overview

What is a domain and why do you need one?

A domain is a hierarchical name space on the Internet that is served by multiple domain name servers (DNS) and managed centrally. A domain is defined by a domain name. Domain name means a symbolic domain name.

According to international agreement, each country is allocated a specific code designation 2-3 letters long, which is called the first level domain or domain of that country. For example, if the site address ends in .az, this means that the site operates in Azerbaijan (for example, .ru is a Russian domain, .fr is a French domain, .jp is a Japanese domain). In addition, several top level domains are available. For example, .com is used for commercial websites, .org for non-profit websites, and .edu for educational websites.

It is worth noting that domain names are registered for a certain period of time (from one to ten years, depending on the zone). After the registration period expires, you need to renew your domain. After the registration process, you temporarily control the domain.

Choosing a domain for a website is often more difficult than choosing its name. When choosing a domain name, it is recommended to consider many factors that will affect how your site is viewed by users and search engines.

Domain name length

The number of characters your domain name will consist of directly affects how it will be perceived and, most importantly, remembered by other people. A simple rule applies here: the shorter the domain name, the better.

At the same time, if you choose a domain name that is too short (for example, choosing an abbreviation), it can be very difficult to read and remember.

However, choosing a domain name that is too long is not recommended. It is considered more effective if the domain name consists of 10-12 characters.

At ONE Studio, we are ready to help you choose a unique and memorable domain name for your website.

How much does a domain name cost?

The price of a domain name depends on the domain zone.
